Connect MySQL DB
You can connect your MySQL databse by following these steps:

    Go to your homepage (

    Click on the Add Data button
  3. 3.
    On the dialog box click choose the MySQL option

Connect MySQL

You need to provide the following details for the connection:
  • Name: The name by which you would like to refer to this data source
  • Host: The address of the machine where mysql server is running (ex:
  • Database Name: The schema of the DB to connect to
  • Username: The username which will access the DB
  • Password: The password corresponding to the user
  • Port: The port number 3306 is used by default

IP Whitelisting

To ensure security of your production MySQL DB you can consider whitelisting our IP to access your DB. Spanrr IP address is
IP whitelisting is generally done by enforcing inbound IP rule on your server/infrastructure provider.


AWS RDS runs in a virtual private cloud so there are a couple of extra steps needed to allow Spanrr to connect to AWS RDS:

    Make it publicly accessible
  2. 2.
    Ensure you update inbound rule to include Spanrr's IP.

Public Access on RDS

  1. 1.
    Select your DB instance in the RDS Databases page and click on Modify
  2. 2.
    Go to Connectivity section and expand "Additional Configuration"
  3. 3.
    Select "Publicly accessible" as shown below
  4. 4.
    Click on continue to apply the changes
Switch the access to Public

Allow Spanrr IP to access the RDS instance

  1. 1.
    Select your DB instance and click on its name to go to details page.
  2. 2.
    Under "Connectivity and Security" tab click on your security group
  3. 3.
    Under the "Inbound Rules" tab select "Edit Inbound rule"
  4. 4.
    Click "Add rule". Select "MySQL/Aurora" under the type. Set the source value as "" as shown below.

    Click "Save rules
